Working on the Memoir

Here's a blog post for the memoir (AKA Mem-Wah).

I feel like my blog has been lacking pictures recently, so here's a slew of awesome pictures with some even more awesome captions.

Here's an awesome shot supplied by the lovely Elle from the Meshuganotes Table at the Involvement Fair. Sam and I were clearly enjoying brand new poster. SOME acapella groups at OSU didn't even have a poster. How Lame.

Also, my parents went to Arizona and my Dad took these awesome pictures.

This was almost a full on Double Rainbow. Imagine my happiness :)

First Day of Classes

Today, God smiled on me. And I think today for (probably not) the first time I realized how absolutely extraordinary my life is. I'm gonna go on record and apologize for the bitching and whining I've been doing for the past 20 years. Except for the stuff about William Blake, he totally deserves it. But I wouldn't call that bitching anyway, more like creatively critiquing for amusement. Not that this means I will be stopping bitching and whining in the near future (or ever), because that usually makes for the most entertaining reading, but I'm just going on record saying that today, I finally realized how lucky I am and why my life is awesome.

I think I've finally reached the pinnacle of my academic career. I'm not exactly sure how I will ever top this quarter of my schooling. Syllabus Day has never been so amazing.

Two Words: 30 Rock.

Yup, that's right. Today, I watched 30 Rock in class. For credit. I can probably die happy now. Except I don't know how I'm ever going to top this. It was pretty epic.

Anyways, I'm instituting a new segment in my blog called entertaining things that Levi says. Levi is my Assistant Hall Director, and he basically makes my blogging easier by just existing. So I will probably include with each blog post some sort of amazing thing that Levi has said. I will try to keep them out of context in order to keep them as entertaining as possible.

"Lately I've been having these dreams about committing vehicular manslaughter and having to hide the bodies because I didn't want to go to jail, so I have to go to these elaborate means and the men are always wearing grey suits with white shirts and red ties."

This quote is funny out of context, but it is actually funnier in context, because the context is I walked into the office, Levi said this to me, and then walked out.

And just for fun, Adi showed me this excellent video to be my new philosophy on life.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn Quarter.

It has been a crazy day. Well, it has been a crazy two weeks. Actually, it has been a crazy summer. I mean let's just be serious for a second, my life is basically an insane crazy mess. But hopefully it will get less insane. I mean, I'm not gonna hold my breath over it or anything, but it is a possibility. A slim one, but a possibility nonetheless.

I'm pretty jazzed for this quarter to start though, not gonna lie. This is my (not so inner) nerd coming out, but I've got all of my school supplies color coordinated by class and my schedule is printed and my planner is getting full and I am really just excited to get back to learning stuff. My schedule this quarter is AMAAAAAAAZING!!! I'm taking Shakespeare, Writing Poetry, Women's Studies in Film, and Film Studies. This is Film Studies 270 with THE S.O.S. (Not a Distress Call, his initials), who totally rules. I'll put it in to perspective for you, my assignment for the first class is to see "Inception."

Needless to say, jazzed is an understatement. I'm actually leaping out of my skin in anticipation.

If you will be at the Student Involvement Fair tomorrow, pop by Special Interests and say Hi to the Meshuganotes Table. It's the kind of thing that I would enjoy. Student Involvement, Meshuganotes, Candy, and Obligations.

You're One Lucky Bug

I've been so insanely busy I've barely had time to sleep, let alone blog. And for that, you can thank my friends at The University Residences and Dining Services.

But then again, they sign my paycheck, and you never know who could read this, so let me just say for the record how much I enjoy being an RA and how I would never want to do anything to jeopardize my employment for TURDS. Excuse me. URDS.

Anyways, I've spent this last week making some gorgeous door decorations for my floor (which is Peter Pan themed) and making phone calls to all of my residents and going to the RA Training. RA Training is the greatest idea in the world, and I've spent lots of time learning about Dialogues, Community Building and all sorts of other interesting and useful topics. Please note, I'm being about 50% ish sarcastic about this, but the exact levels are indeterminate right now.

But listening to me ramble about RA Training is boring, so I'm going to instead write about the much more exciting things I did this weekend. This included watching OSU completely demoralize the University of Miami Hurricanes in a glorious football game on Saturday and also getting to meet Geof and Mary Alice from Ace of Cakes on Sunday.

This is me meeting Geof and Mary Alice. Alexa and Lauren are also pictured in this photo.

I was so happy I almost exploded.

This is me probably as close to marrying my dream husband Geof Manthorne as I will ever get. (If you are reading this and you are Geof or you know Geof, please tell him how much I love him.)

This is me about as happy as I'll ever be because I have an autographed picture of Geof and Mary Alice as well as an autographed Season 2 DVD and lots of pictures of the gorgeous Geof Manthorne.

Seriously, so great.

Following this excursion, Lauren and I got Bagels (which we had coupons for, which also included free coffee) and this made for basically the best day ever.

So I was talking to a friend of mine on Saturday named Stephen A. who said that he read the blog (well actually he said that he read the first two posts and then stopped, but it's the thought that counts right?) and I felt like I had to mention this for a lot of reasons.

1. I was really happy that he had even bothered to look at the blog
2. He told me he would read it more if he were mentioned in it.
3. It made me laugh that people would even bother to read this blog anymore considering I am no longer in England, but am now just blogging about my normal and sometimes ridiculous life.
So then I had a great idea! If you sometimes read this blog and think to yourself A) I spend all this time reading this blog, I would really like it if Jaclyn mentioned my name every once in a while or B) Wow, I would really like to know what Jaclyn thinks about this totally random idea because she writes about pretty insane stuff, I now have an amazing solution for you.

You can leave me a comment here on the blog, on my Facebook, or send me an email about something you want me to blog about and I'll blog about it. I will also mention that you were the one who gave me the idea, so you can have some fake internet fame of your own!!

Let's just be serious for a second, there's only so many interesting things that happen in my life, and there are certain topics I am legally prohibited from blogging about, so the more suggestions the better. The more random they are, the more I will probably enjoy blogging about them.

That being said, If you actually read this far down, Kudos to you, and also, You Rule.

You've Got a Friend in Taylor

This is my first blog post as an official 20 year old, so I naturally assume that it will be leaps and bounds more sophisticated than all of my previous blog posts from my teenage years. I hope you don't find this transition confusing, but everyone knows there is no greater adjustment in life than that of a 19 year old to a 20 year old.

Today I packed. And packed. And packed. And while packing I watched the end of The Tudors season 2 (Anne Boleyn gets beheaded??? Shocked.) and My Name is Earl Season 2 (Guilty Pleasure for an NBC junkie).

I just reread that sentence and I'm beginning to think that Netflix Play Now TV is ruining my life.

I officially moved out of P-town and into the glorious Taylor Tower around 4, which involved two trips with my car Kenneth and a separate trip with Mom's giant white tank to bring the futon and TV. And I must say, it feels so good to be home.

RA training starts tomorrow, which is awesome, because it is totally revamped and completely different from last year, which is great (no offense to TURDS [The University Residency and Dining Services - AKA the group that signs my checks]). I'll have more updates on training as it takes place, mostly on the parts of it that are funny and/or boring.

My room is AMAAAAAZINNNG. The only thing that is missing is the wonderful Lexi who inhabited it last year, and I miss dearly. I'll post pictures of it once I get the decorations up, because right now there is a lot of blank wall space, and I can't condone putting that kind of lameness on the blog.

This was a pretty short post, and I'm anticipating that I'll be pretty busy during training so I might not be posting that frequently, which probably will also apply to when school starts up again in two weeks, but I'm thinking the posts will be Quality over Quantity from now on. For now, I hope everyone had a nice Labor Day, and I can't wait to get back to work!!!

Today Was the Last Day of the First Part of Your Life

Barring any sort of profound revelation or epiphany that I would be a criminal to not blog about immediately in the next 3 hours and 36 minutes, this will be my last blog post as a teenager.

There's not really too much to say other than that I'm really glad I survived teenage pregnancy.

Which for the record, I did.

It feels incredibly anti-climactic to be turning 20. I mean, I'm pleased, don't get me wrong, but it's not lie my life is exactly changing. Ironically, over the past year, I have changed. A lot. I've got confirmation of that theory from multiple sources that I have changed as a person over the course of the year. For one thing, I watch a lot more television.

But really, this has been a pretty amazing year. I started a job as an RA. I survived a year as an RA. I even signed on for another year as an RA because I enjoyed it so much (and I'm not just saying that because sometimes my bosses read my blog. I've been to Israel and London, which are places I never thought I'd ever get to see. I've grown so much as a person over the course of this past year, which is why it's ironic that my life isn't really changing. I'm just a year older, dealing with the same life and the same self-induced, neurotic problems that I didn't really have a year ago.

I'm not bothered by this. I have a really great life. Like one that should be illegal it is so great. It's just interesting to think about. I'm sure I'll have a more interesting blog post tomorrow on my actual birthday. I bet it will make my insight more thoughtful.
